7th Grader Helps Children in Guatemala

Seventh Grade student, Gabriella Stimpson, spent her winter break from SGWS helping those in need by volunteering through Orphan’s Heart — a nonprofit organization on a mission to bring love and transformational care to every child in need in the developing world.

Her week long trip, with her mother and grandmother, placed her at the organization’s malnutrition center in San Juan Sac., one hour outside of Guatemala City.  At this facility, children sponsored through the organization receive food on a monthly basis, which Gabriella helped distribute.  She also stayed with the kids during the day, playing with them, doing what the organization needed and even showing the kids how to do finger knitting. When not with the children at the center, she made visits to a local senior care facility.

Her Mom, Hilary, was impressed by her daughter and credited her education with preparing her well for this mission trip.

I truly believe her Spring Garden experience prepared her — not just with the hand working skills — but her ability to enjoy working hard and to communicate well with a variety of ages.  I was very thankful for her Waldorf education while there.”
