Kids of All Ages Love the Children’s Festival

Whether your child is 3, 13 or beyond, they’ll have fun and be entertained at the Children’s Festival and Artists’ Market on Saturday Nov. 19th.

The under 10 crowd, in particular, love the cookie fairy and boat rooms.  In the cookie fairy room, children crawl through a gauze maze filled with sparkling lights and are rewarded for their fun effort by emerging into an open space with a beautiful cookie fairy who hands little ones a star shaped sugar cookie. In the boat room, children enter a hushed dark room and hear the sounds of water and see a far off lantern.  Then this lantern approaches and it’s attached to a life-size boat!  Children place a wish into the basket under the lantern, watch the boat sail off, and then it returns to give them a special treasure to take home.

Older children enjoy crafts like creating your own jump rope using a simple machine or making a wooden candle holder.  This year older children will also get to meet John Fellenstein from the University of Akron’s Polymer Science Department. John will be doing an exercise with the children about solar radiation, ultra violet rays and honey bees.

All ages enjoy the varied activities in our gym. In the Artisan’s market, children and parents can spend a little money on beautiful handmade gifts or toys for the Holidays. Lunch is served in the gym as well — pizza, cabbage-chickpea-dill soup, vegetarian and meat chili, meat and vegetarian quiche and a variety of desserts from our bake sale. And while dining and shopping, folks get to enjoy live entertainment from Zach Freidhof from Zach and the Brightlights and Recipe of Life featuring SGWS Alumni Ariel McCleary and her duet partner, Shelby Denton.

If you’ve got babies and toddlers, we have fun for them too! Puppet shows and nursery rhymes take place in our Early Childhood rooms and we have a private area for nursing.

Don’t miss out!  Come on by between 10-4 on Saturday, Nov. 19th and warm up with us at Spring Garden. Events are purchased through low cost tickets and it’s only $3 admission. See you Saturday!
