Celebrate the summer solstice at Spring Garden this year! Families and friends of SGWS are invited to join us in celebrating St. John’s Day on Saturday, June 17th from 5:30-7:30 at Spring Garden Waldorf School.
Midsummer, or St. John’s Day, is a celebration of the summer solstice. According to Karen Rivers in Waldrof Education – A Family Guide, “High summer has been celebrated with fire since ancient times. Huge bonfires were lit on the Summer Solstice to help the sun continue to increase rather than diminish in the light it brings.”
She goes on to say that, “as parents we may prepare the way for our children. On this day, when the sun is at its height, we may turn our eye inward with the conviction that in times of abundance, the need for inner strength is just as great as in times of little or darkness.”
Our celebration will include a bonfire, activities, and potluck. Please bring a labeled dish to share and personal place settings. Beverages provided.
