One Call Now Test Wednesday Afternoon

At 2:00 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, November 27), we will run a test of our One Call Now emergency alert system. If you do not receive a call or message from us wishing you a happy Thanksgiving, pleaseemail Hazel as soon as possible with the number or numbers we should call in the event of school closure or other emergencies.

Of course, with the wintry weather rapidly moving our way, there is always the chance that we will have to use the One Call Now system to cancel school before we can run our test! SGWS school closures are also reported on Fox 8, WEWS ABC 5, WKYC NBC 3, Newsradio WTAM 1100 AM, WMVX, WMJI, WGAR, WAKS, WMMS, WHLO, WKDD, Radio Free Ohio 1350 AM, WVIS/PBS Ideastream, WCRF 103.3 FM, WCLV 104.9 FM, and Any school closure will be reported to these stations by 6:30 a.m.

In the event that we do have to cancel school tomorrow due to the weather, we will use the One Call Now system to report the closure and will not run the planned test. If the weather appears to indicate a snow day and you have not received a call, please check the above-listed stations before calling the school. Please do not call teachers or staff at home to check whether or not school will be canceled, and please bear in mind that the school office does not open until 7:30 a.m.

A Note from Kelly Plusquellic, Director of Development

Thank you all for the incredibly warm welcome. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first two weeks here at SGWS. I’ve had the privilege of sitting in on several classes throughout the school day, and have truly been witness to The Waldorf Difference. I’ve been so impressed by how the children are encouraged to develop their own thoughts and ideas, and how the students and teachers display a mutual respect and compassion for each other. But most importantly, I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of creativity, joy, and warmth that’s displayed in the hallways every day.

Our Annual Giving Campaign helps to bridge the cost of educating SGWS students that is not covered by tuition. You have all experienced the unique and empowering experience that SGWS gives to each and every one of its students. Because of that, I am certain that we will meet and exceed our fundraising goal of $25,000. For those of you who are able to submit your pledge by end of day Tuesday December, 17, you will be entered into a raffle drawing for one of four $25 Giant Eagle gift cards. Winnings can be collected any time before the end of school onFriday, December 20. What a great way to start your holiday break!

Thank you to all of you who have already submitted your pledges, and thank you to all of you who are so committed to helping SGWS provide the wonderful education that is known to us all as “The Waldorf Difference.”

There will be only one hot lunch date in December – Tuesday, December 10. Pasta will be served; a complete menu and order form will be available soon. Hot lunch dates for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year will be announced by the end of December.
